Accessing SNRE File Services

SNRE uses the U of M Mainstream Storage service for our network storage.

Accessing files from SNRE Windows Computers on campus

If you are connected to the SNRE network and using an SNRE Windows computer, you simply need to log in with your uniqname and Windows Active Directory password, making sure the "Log on to" option is set to UMROOT.

The computer will then run a script to establish a connection to the file servers. The Q: drive connects to any SNRE group directories you have access to. Some users also have an SNRE home directory, which will be connected as the H: drive.

From other Windows computers

Campus Computing Sites or elsewhere on the Campus Network

  1. Right-click "Computer" (or "My Computer" in Windows XP)
  2. Select "Map Network Drive"
  3. Choose a drive letter.  The drive letters are arbitrary and can be set to anything, but you may want to set them to H: and Q: to match the typical SNRE configuration.
  4. Enter the following in the "Folder" field:
    • For the Q: drive, use \\adsroot.itcs.umich.edu\snre\group
    • For the H: drive, use \\adsroot.itcs.umich.edu\snre\homes\<your uniqname>
  5. Click the link for "Connect using a different user name."
  6. Enter UMROOT\<your uniqname> for the username and your Windows Active Directory password and click "OK."
  7. Click "Finish" and your drive will be mapped.
