Course statement

This special-topics seminar on water politics will familiarize students with the rationale behind the rise of mega-scale water engineering projects in this country, as well as the effects these kinds of projects have had on ecological functioning, human health, and cultural practices. The course syllabus will be handed out the first day of class.

Course requirements

In keeping with a 1-credit specialty seminar, this class will meet for one hour, once a week, for the whole semester.

Students are expected to read 2 journal articles or book chapters each week (50-60 pages on average). For half of the sessions, students are expected to submit an informal 2-paragraph reading response paper, details to be discussed in class.

Students will complete an essay assignment (10-12 pages) in lieu of a final exam. In their essays, students will be asked to analyze a current event of their choosing using course material, making policy recommendations as appropriate. Further details will be discussed in class.
