Glancy Climate Innovation Award
- Description of award: The Glancy Climate Innovation Award will be used to provide assistance with climate change related activities, conducted by School of Natural Resources and Environment students at the University of Michigan. The Donor prefers that the awards be given to students conducting innovative mitigation or abrupt climate change research; awards could be used for tuition, research assistance, or to assist with summer internships in the field of climate change.
- Essay Topic: The purpose of the Glancy Climate Innovation Award is to support student research aimed at addressing this critical gap between what the science says, what is economically feasible and what is politically realistic. In particular, the Award aims to fund student research into areas frequently overlooked or shunned such as geo engineering (both albedo modification and broad sequestration techniques), genetically modification of plant species (both for fuel production or sequestration purposes), and other "sacred cows".
Examples of such research include investigation of the viability of geoengineering to control the temperature of the planet, genetic modification of plants for both fuel production or carbon sequestration, materials research for fuel production and environmental management, and strategies for the safe removal of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and oceans. The essay should address your research embodying the award's objective.
- Essays shall be no more than two pages (single sided). Please use 12 point font and standard margins. Single or double line spacing is accepted.
- Please put your full name and umich email address at the top of your essay for tracking purposes; essay evaluations will be anonymous.
- One or two students may be selected. Each award is $3,000.
- Tax law prohibits the donor to communicate with applicants. If students contact the donor regarding their application, essay topic, etc., the student's application would be considered ineligible do to tax law.
