HOW DO I PREPARE FOR THE CAREER FAIR? TOP 10 TIPS:
1. Come prepared, take time to review websites of employers to learn about their firms and know what opportunities they are recruiting for. Have a list of employers you plan to meet with at the fair.
2. Bring copies of your resume and hand them out to recruiters.
3. Dress professionally.
4. Practice a 30 second elevator speech to introduce yourself, your interests and skills to employers you meet at the fair: http://www.optimalresume.com/upload/ResourceFile_university_Elevator.pdf
5. Pick up business cards and jot down notes on the back to help you remember conversations and any promised follow-up.
6. Be sure to smile, make eye contact and shake hands with every employer that you meet. Show courteous behavior in everything you do. They will notice the little things.
7. Try to engage the employer and learn about their background and how they got started with the company.
8. Come prepared with a few questions you can ask employers. Hereí¢â‚¬â„¢s my background, who do you suggest I contact to learn about opportunities in these areas? Whatí¢â‚¬â„¢s the best way to submit my application? What skills does your firm look for when hiring?
9. Gather any important literature on organizations that interest you to look over after the fair.
10.Be sure to follow up with a thank you email to employers you meet and with any other follow up you may have promised.
P.S. If you do attend, please stop by OAP (1520 Dana) and let us know how the fair went & please bring us any business cards so we can copy them and add them to the eRecruiter database!
