Summer Temporary Positions Open at Rackham

 

Graduate Student Success is in need of six (6) part-time Student Services Assistants to provide assistance with the execution of The Summer Research Opportunity Program (SROP) and Summer Institute (SI). The SROP and SI programs are developed and directed by the Graduate Student Success director and program manager. Participants in SROP and SI are outstanding students who are underrepresented in their fields of study and/or who have a demonstrated commitment to diversity. The SROP students are undergraduates who are interested in pursuing doctoral studies and are from colleges and universities across the nation. The SI students are incoming U-M doctoral students who have received a Rackham Merit Fellowship.

 

The period of employment is from May 1 through August 31, 2012. The hours for the position vary from week to week, depending upon the activities in the programs, but include late afternoon and early evening hours at least once a week. Some weekend work may be required.  The estimated number of hours per week is 20. The hourly rate for the position is $25.00 per hour, depending upon qualifications and experience.

 

Applicants must have a demonstrated understanding of event planning; ability to handle a variety of detailed tasks and meet deadlines; strong organizational, verbal, and written skills; ability to work as part of a team and capacity to exercise independent initiative. Our strong preference is for applicants with more than one year of graduate experience at the University of Michigan, especially those with previous experience in either the Summer Research Opportunity Program or the Summer Institute. Preference will be given to applicants who have reached candidacy or who have more than one year of graduate experience at the University of Michigan, and for applicants whose background and/or work experience is diversity-related.
